au·then·ti·city (noun)- the quality of being authentic: "the paper should have established the authenticity of the documents before publishing them."

sup·port (noun)- to give assistance to, especially financially: "the government gives £2,500 million a year to support the voluntary sector."

I think it’s time I say something. I can’t keep sitting around and not saying something, but social media has lost the plot, and those who use it every day have, too. Just because the information is on Google doesn’t mean my creativity needs to be free. I’ve done myself a disservice by not gatekeeping many of my ideas and creating a space for those who truly value the art of writing and analysis. During the whole Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef, I’ve garnered over 3K followers based on my thoughts and opinions of Kendrick.

Jokingly, I called myself Thee President of the Kendrick Lamar fan club because nobody claimed it as their own. I’ve been called Madam President since then. I created a utopian community of Kendrick Lamar fans on social media. Not only do I provide commentary and analysis, but I’m also a writer, and when I post my work, only a few people click and read it.

My appreciation, which I received on Threads, never translated into any of my creative endeavors. I would notice this pattern of being hyped up in the comments, and it not translating into “true support.” A few weeks ago, I decided not to give everything away for free just to be seen. Although I knew what I had to say had value, I wasn’t brave enough to put a price on it. With that comes maturity and confidence. I try not to beat myself up about it because the lessons I need to learn will come when they’re supposed to.

I listen to Kendrick Lamar every single night. I don’t know why I enjoy his music more at night, maybe because I’m not distracted, and it’s just him and the music. I always have fresh thoughts with every listen, and I want to use this space not to talk about what’s trending, but to experience and write about my “aha moments.” I don’t have a set schedule for when I will post, but my goal is to create nine-minute readings about what I think of a song or an album. I also want to show my appreciation for him, coming from a woman.

I’ve been manifesting an interview with him, not to talk about music, but to have a deep, thought-provoking conversation about life. For example, when he was on Big Boi promoting the album DAMN, he drew what he thought the brain looked like. I’m interested in that. How does he see the brain? With all the social media in the world, I haven’t seen what he drew.

With your paid subscription, I wanted to create journal prompts on an album or a song. The prompts are the deep thinkers who aren’t afraid to go dark. In most cases, the dark moments reveal your inner light. I do it for music lovers, writers, readers, and poets.

Sincerely,
